Muslim communities in Dewsbury and Wakefield have successfully raised £170,000 to support the creation of a brand new MRI suite at Pinderfields Hospital. The fundraising campaign, known as Muslims for MRI, brought together over 60 mosques, alongside local businesses, charities, and individuals, all united by a shared goal to enhance healthcare services in the area. A fundraising page on the Just Giving platform was also started to collect contributions for this community cause.

This generous contribution will help fund advanced MRI equipment for the Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust. The new suite is expected to significantly reduce waiting times for scans and improve early diagnosis and treatment outcomes for thousands of patients across the region.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging, or MRI, is a vital tool used by doctors to look inside the body without surgery. It helps identify problems such as tumours, brain conditions, and joint or organ issues.

The community’s contribution was celebrated at a special event held at Pinderfields Hospital. Attendees, including members of Muslims for MRI, were given a tour of the new MRI suite, which is now fully operational. Keith Ramsay, chair of MY Hospitals Charity, praised the campaign’s supporters, calling it a shining example of how local generosity can have a meaningful impact. He said the new facilities will benefit patients for many years to come.

Keith Ramsay, chair of MY Hospitals Charity and Mid Yorkshire Teaching NHS Trust, said: “We are incredibly grateful to all those involved in the Muslims for MRI campaign for their outstanding support.”

Iqbal Bhana, speaking on behalf of the fundraising group, expressed pride in what the community had achieved, highlighting that it was a moment of unity and compassion. He described the campaign as a way of showing how Muslims in the area are playing an active role in supporting and strengthening public services like the NHS.

This effort is a clear reminder of the positive role Muslim communities play in helping wider society, and how acts of charity in Islam continue to make a difference in real and lasting ways.

Another shining example is how a Birmingham mosque cleared 120 tonnes of rubbish in a day
